Jess' yogic journey started as an undergraduate at Douglass College, and found her yoga home the first time she entered one of Charlotte Stone's classes. In 2003, she became a certified Structural Yoga teacher and is a registered Yoga Alliance teacher. Jess has had the honor of assisting Charlotte Stone with the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings since her graduation and has presented the meditation segment the past three years.
Jess teaches adults and children in group classes and privately. In her work with adults, she focuses on helping her students find an accessible yoga practice that they can incorporate into their daily lives. Jess teaches with warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity. She sees yoga as a practice that can be strengthening, invigorating, relaxing, healing, and fun; her mission is to make this contemplative and beneficial practice accessible to all.
As an elementary school teacher with a Masters degree in education, she makes movement activities an integral part of her work with children in the classroom setting. Jess is also an avid meditator who has sat several week-long silent retreats, and enjoys integrating meditation techniques in her instruction and for daily living.
Jess had the opportunity to experience the work and passion of Seane Corn when she attended a day-long Detox Flow Yoga workshop. In addition, she completed Osteoporosis: A Comprehensive Treatment Strategy Level 1 with Sara Meeks, P.T. and utilizes this method in her volunteer work at Gilda's Club, a cancer support center. She has embarked on her next BIG yoga adventure a 500 hour level program at the Stone Center for Yoga & Health.
She includes her longtime mentor, teacher and friend Charlotte Stone, Patty Hart (her favorite chakra-inspired teacher), Sue Abiad (her Iyengar-inspired teacher), Kim Jeblick, Carrie Parker, Seane Corn and Reverend Jaganath Carrera as influences in her practice and study of yoga.
