Jess' yogic journey started as an undergraduate at Douglass College, and found her yoga home the first time she entered one of Charlotte Stone's classes. In 2003, she became a 200 hour-certified Structural Yoga teacher and is a registered Yoga Alliance teacher. Jess has had the honor of assisting Charlotte Stone with the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings since her graduation and has presented the meditation segment the past three years.
Jess teaches adults and children in group classes and privately. In her work with adults, she focuses on helping her students find an accessible yoga practice that they can incorporate into their daily lives. Jess teaches with warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity. She sees yoga as a practice that can be strengthening, invigorating, relaxing, healing, and fun; her mission is to make this contemplative and beneficial practice accessible to all.
As an elementary school teacher with a Masters degree in education, she makes movement activities an integral part of her work with children in the classroom setting.
Jess is an avid meditator who has sat several week-long silent retreats sitting with such teachers as Amita Schmidt, Chas DiCapua, Spring Washam, Michael Grady, Narayan Liebenson, Maddy Klyne, Kamala Masters, Steve Armstrong, Pascal Auclair, as well as with Pema Chodron. In 2013, Jess will be participating in a year-long course entitled, Integrated Study and Practice Program, with Andrew Olendzki and Gloria Taraniya Ambrosia. She enjoys integrating meditation techniques in her classes and with private students in order to guide others in finding more ease in daily living. Also, she has had the honor to lead the Monthly Meditation Circle as well as the Meditation Segment of the Yoga Teacher Training the past three years at Stone Yoga.
Jess has taken Detox Flow Yoga with Seane Corn, the Art of Hands-on Adjustments with Chrissy Carter, prenatal training with Carrie Parker and workshops on yoga philosophy with Rev. Jaganath. In addition, she completed Osteoporosis: A Comprehensive Treatment Strategy Level 1 with Sara Meeks, P.T. which she utilizes to keep students safe in her volunteer work at Gilda’s Club, a cancer support center.
She is grateful to Charlotte Stone, Patty Hart (her favorite chakra-inspired teacher), Sue Abiad, Ann Minoff, Jane Silane, Kim Jeblick, Carrie Parker and Seane Corn as well as Reverend Jaganath Carrera for informing and deepening her practice, study of yoga, and the yoga she offers students.
Jess enjoys helping students find a practice that fits the rhythm of their life and that honors their body, mind and soul.
